More so than anywhere else, Calabrian Helichryse italicum expresses an extraordinary aromatic profile with a concentration of active compounds among the highest in the world. However, it involves woodland harvesting, from an unspoilt environment rich in traditions.
To ensure a sustainable supply chain, Herbarom has identified an expert partner responsible for harvesting and distilling the precious immortelle.
Before each harvest, the sites are methodically identified and the areas mapped in order to obtain the rights to harvest in the natural environment and to have the harvesting areas certified.
The harvest respects the plant by removing only its flowering tops, as Helichrysum regenerates and produces new flowers the following year. The cut flowers are then transported within six hours of collection to avoid any risk of overheating or deterioration. The plant is distilled in a still specially developed for short distillations (less than 3 hours). Cohobation allows the smallest fractions still trapped in the hydrolats to be recovered.
